Where To Eat In Sussex – Great Days Out

Spring is here, and it's time to start taking advantage of those all too brief bursts of glorious weather, to go out and enjoy the wonderful attractions of West Sussex - and Horsham in particular.

Horsham has so much to offer to keep you and the family entertained now and Mannings Heath Golf & Wine Estate provides guests with a range of food, wine and golf experiences. There is also our sister estate Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens, one of the finest woodland gardens in Britain, which is experiencing a breath-taking explosion of colour at this time of year.

When planning your day out - if you are looking for the best restaurants in Horsham - a highlight would be a visit to the Vineyard Kitchen Restaurant, the place to go for delicious food and quality service. It offers an open, relaxed lunchtime dining setting and in the evening a more intimate ambience.

The restaurant is set in Mannings Heath Golf & Wine Estate’s 18th-century clubhouse, which is in an 'area of outstanding natural beauty’, with panoramic views of the international golf course and the South Downs. It also contains a variety of wood-panelled private conference and dining rooms and is a popular venue for weddings and celebrations.  It is the perfect place to relax over a delicious meal, with fine wine and great company.

Best Restaurants

The Vineyard Kitchen Restaurant offers British cuisine at its best on both breakfast and lunch menus. Our breakfast menu is a hit with guests looking to fuel up before a round of golf. The 18-Hole Breakfast is a traditional English meal made with ethically sourced ingredients and lighter options include smashed avocado and blush tomatoes on sourdough or gluten-free eggs royale.

The lunch menu has options that will appeal to even the most particular of diners. A few favourites are the classic fresh fish and chips with tartar sauce and chunky chips and the roasted vegetable salad with butternut, pickled beetroot, cauliflower, hummus and five seeds.

Join us on a Sunday to indulge in the heartiest of traditional roasts with all the trimmings. Choose either one, two or three courses, including ham hock terrine, mustard emulsion and pickled shallots, roast of the day and Eton mess, crème Chantilly and strawberries.

The Vineyard Kitchen Restaurant boasts a 4.5/5 rating on Tripadvisor, with comments from happy diners that include: “The setting is magnificent for a start. The dining room is cosy and comfortable. Our waitress was extremely attentive throughout the evening and interacted well with the 4 of us. The meal was delicious at every stage and was served promptly. All was beautifully presented.”

The owner of Mannings Heath Golf & Wine Estate Penny Streeter OBE, says "We have built Mannings on the 'wine experience' of tours and tastings, culinary pairings, and excellent cuisine. The concept is a success for us in South Africa, and the UK is ready for it now, particularly with the increased interest in English sparkling wines”

Family Days Out In West Sussex

The vineyard at Mannings Heath Golf & Wine Estate was built in 2017, to produce sparkling wine for a 2023 launch date, and there are regular wine tasting sessions, with wines from its sister estate at Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate in South Africa. Penny Streeter OBE created the UK's first 'golf and wine estate' at the 500-acre parkland location in response to the rising demand for English wine.

Penny is the managing director of the Benguela Cove group, whose other properties include Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate in South Africa, featuring a vineyard producing award-winning wines and a residential estate.

For a great family day out in West Sussex, guests at the Vineyard Kitchen Restaurant at Manning Heath would be wise to visit Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens just 3.5 miles down the road. Leonardslee is famous internationally for its spring garden displays. The first flowers to appear are the Camellias, the towering Magnolias and the larger leaved Rhododendrons and Pieris bushes with their lily of the valley-like flowers and red shoots.

At ground level, you will see the large host of daffodils and other spring flowers that carpet the woodland floor. A special pleasure for many is the carpets of English Bluebells that start to poke through in sheltered places before the grand display in May and June. These precious spring months offer an amazing visual treat.
