Platter's Wine Award For Benguela Cove
Platter's Wine Award
Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate – which has the same owner as Mannings Heath Golf & Wine Estate - has received its first five-star rating at the launch of the 2019 Platter’s South Africa Wine Guide, for its Catalina Semillon 2017.
The vineyard in the Walker Bay region, Hermanus, was bought in 2013 by Penny Streeter OBE.
Platter’s has become a household name for lovers of South African wine since its inception in 1980, judging more than 8,000 native wines each year. Wines rating 95 points and above are tasted blind in a second round and awarded up to five stars. This is the maiden vintage for Benguela Cove’s five-star wine, Catalina Semillon 2017, available from April 2019.
In the UK, the owner’s vineyards in West Sussex have a total of 66,000 vines under cultivation across 16 hectares at Mannings Heath Golf & Wine Estate, planted in 2017, and a second site this year at Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens.
This awards announcement was made at the annual launch of the Platter’s guide at the Table Bay Hotel in the V&A Waterfront, Cape Town on November 6th, 2018.
