Winemaker's Dinner

Join our winemaker Johann Fourie for a fabulous Winemakers’ Dinner at Mannings Heath. It’s a great way to find out more about the wonderful wines from South Africa, which enjoy a growing reputation for superior quality.

Enjoy drinks on arrival from 19:00 followed by dinner at 19:30. The dinner will close at 22:00 and is £50 per person.

This is a great way to find out more about the wines of Benguela Cove, South Africa.

Renowned for its beautiful lagoon setting, Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate is located at the start of the Hermanus Wine Route. The unique quality of the wine results from the special conditions of the vineyard’s location at the ocean’s edge on the southern coast of South Africa.

The south-easterly sea breeze is chilled by the Benguela Current flowing up from Antarctica, to cool the grapes at night after warm summer days, irrigated by above-average rainfall, for perfect viniculture.

The vines planted across the estate are young and have already asserted the supreme quality of the terroir with a series of awards. These exceptional conditions and the skills of the winemaker create our superb Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, and other cultivars.

Benguela Cove benefits from major investment by the owners in winemaking and cultivation - the same owners as Mannings Heath. This is a family realising its vision for Benguela Cove: to establish the estate’s red and white cultivars over the coming years as South Africa’ premier quality wine.

About The Winemaker: Johann Fourie

Johann Fourie was appointed in 2016 as Cellar Master for Benguela Cove wines in South Africa and later at Mannings Heath and Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens, to manage the selection of vineyard sites, to grow the grapes, plan the wineries and oversee winemaking. He was the Diners Club Winemaker of the Year in 2015.

In South Africa, the Benguela Cove Wine Estate produces a range of award-winning wines from Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Sémillon, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Pinot Noir, Malbec, and Mourvèdre grapes.

Benguela Cove received its first five-star rating at the launch of the 2019 Platter’s South Africa Wine Guide for its Catalina Semillon 2017. Platters has become a household name for lovers of South African wine since its inception in 1980, judging more than 8,000 native wines each year.

Wines rating 95 points and above are tasted blind in a second round and awarded up to five stars. This is the maiden vintage for Benguela Cove’s five-star wine, Catalina Semillon 2017, available from April 2019.
