New Sussex Business Hub and Mental Health Initiative launched by Institute of Directors and Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate. 

The Institute of Directors has joined forces with Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate to create a luxurious new business hub for Sussex directors in the Clubhouse. They are also jointly organising an online webinar ‘Mental Health, Emotional Resilience and dealing with uncertainty and adversity on 12 Mar 2021 from 12:15 to 13:30.

The event is in recognition of International Women’s Week which takes place in March, celebrating the economic, social, cultural and political achievements of women. 

The line-up of speakers includes Penny Streeter OBE, the successful entrepreneur in the UK and South Africa and owner of Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate and Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens in Sussex.

The Speakers 

Alderman William Russell | Lord Mayor of the City of London 

He has a few charitable interests, including being past Chair of Prostate Cancer UK and is currently Deputy Chair of Place2Be, a children’s mental health charity. His mayoral theme for his time in office is “Global UK – The New Future”, supporting businesses through the COVID19 crisis, speeding the recovery and seizing the opportunities of the new future.

Penny Streeter | Owner, Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate, 

Penny Streeter OBE, the owner of Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate in Sussex, is one of the UK’s most successful entrepreneurs. She was once homeless and living in a women’s refuge with three children. Since then, Penny has built a business empire in the UK and South Africa. 

She will talk about how she personally addresses and succeeds in meeting the huge challenges in overcoming numerous obstacles and achieving success.

Shantha Dickinson | Assistant Chief Fire Officer, Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service 

Beginning her career in the British Army, Shantha served ten years as a Commissioned Officer in the Intelligence Corps and has always undertaken roles that are related to developing actionable knowledge. More recently she had close involvement with the development of strategic leadership capability in the sector as the Deputy Director of the Executive Leadership Programme, run in partnership between the NFCC and the University of Warwick.

Julie Kapsalis | Chair, Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership 

Julie Kapsalis is Chair of the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership - a business-led partnership that works across the public, private and third sectors to determine local economic priorities and investment.

Ros Townsend | Psychotherapist 

Ros Townsend is a registered psychotherapist who, alongside a busy private practice, works with PTSD Resolution, the Veterans’ mental health charity. She has extensive experience of providing treatment for military veterans who have undergone some of the worst experiences imaginable, as well as having supported many frontline staff and other workers during the pandemic. Ros will discuss practical tips on coping with the mental stresses caused by Coronavirus and will share the blueprint for good emotional health that we all need to be aware of to cope well during difficult times. Ros is the author of “PTSD Understanding and Recovery” and provides online training through TATE – Trauma Awareness Training for Everyone. 

Charlotte Valeur | Director of 7 public companies, including three appointments as chair. 

Charlotte has been a director of 7 public companies, including three appointments as chair. During that period, she has taken part in a complete restructuring of NTR Plc, the sale of Renewable Energy Generation Plc to BlackRock and, as Chair, overseeing an $8bln Merger of FTSE250 Kennedy Wilson Europe Real Estate Plc with its US NYSE listed parent. Charlotte also has board experience with a range of unlisted companies including international engineering firm Laing O’Rourke, BT Pension Fund and as the National Chair of Institute of Directors U.K. 

The speakers will share their compelling experiences and give examples of dealing with difficult and challenging situations - how they have dealt with these challenges and how they have developed the mindset and emotional resilience to successfully overcome them. 

New Hub For Institute Of Directors 

Once Coronavirus restrictions are lifted, IoD members will be able to use the club, near Horsham, as a drop-in hub for working, dining and socialising, with no additional membership charges. There are also special rates for the use of conference and other venue facilities. 

Mannings Heath is set in the heart of the West Sussex countryside with two golf courses: the Waterfall international course and the 9-hole Kingfisher. The venue also hosts weddings, parties and special occasions as well as wine tastings and golf-buggy tours of the 57-acre vineyard, which saw its first harvest in 2020. 

Mannings Heath Golf & Wine Estate is part of the Benguela Collection, which also includes Leonardslee House & Gardens in Lower Beeding, West Sussex, and Benguela Cove Wine Estate in South Africa. 

The Benguela Collection is owned and operated by Zimbabwean-born entrepreneur Penny Streeter OBE.
